Privacy & measurement
Useful traffic statistics, without advertising profiles.
Effective 26 July 2026. This notice covers the X-App guide hub and the five specialist destinations listed in the public Network Observatory.
Cookie-free first-party analytics
X-App uses its own measurement endpoint to count real page views, anonymous daily visitors and 30-minute browsing sessions. The purpose is to understand which guides are useful, maintain the network and improve published information. The measurements are not used for advertising or cross-site profiling.
What is measured
- the event time, destination hostname and URL path, without query parameters or page fragments;
- the referring hostname and path when a browser supplies it;
- coarse country, device and browser categories supplied or derived at the server;
- a salted anonymous visitor hash that automatically changes every UTC day; and
- a random session identifier kept in browser session storage, renewed after 30 minutes of inactivity and irreversibly hashed before storage.
What is not stored
No analytics cookies are set. Raw IP addresses, raw browser user-agent strings, names, email addresses, form content and full referrer URLs are not stored in the analytics table. The IP address and user-agent are processed only long enough to create the daily anonymous hash and coarse categories.
Retention and controls
Event-level measurements are retained for no more than 400 days so the Observatory can compare several time periods. Aggregated totals may remain in published reports. Browsers that send Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track are not measured by the first-party script. Blocking JavaScript also prevents browser-side measurement.
Public reporting
The Network Observatory publishes only aggregated counts by destination, page and selected dimensions. It never exposes visitor or session identifiers.
